Generating Point Clouds with SGM
Point Cloud usage is on an upward trend due to its capability to provide high quality, dense data collection that can be put to work for a myriad of projects including, for example, creating Digital Elevation Models (DEMs), performing volumetric measurements, view sheds, asset management, corridor analysis, and flood risk evaluation.
Point clouds can be captured directly using Laser scanners, but that’s not the only way to generate a point cloud. Point clouds can also be extracted from imagery. Semi Global Matching (SGM) is a method that uses triangulated imagery to produce an RGB encoded Point Cloud.
