Hexagon Geospatial and Hexagon Geospatial’s partner Geosystems were recently awarded a project to help one of Europe’s leading electricity and gas companies – the RWE Deutschland AG. With its headquarters in Essen, Germany, RWE Deutschland sought to organize and manage geospatial data for the entire country of Germany, covering more than 365,000 square kilometers of land area.

The satellite images, processed and classified by ERDAS IMAGINE, track human rights violations before and after reported attacks, highlighting changes in houses and vegetation in villages throughout the region.

In 2003, the Space Shuttle Columbia went down in disaster over eastern Texas. Realizing that satellite image mapping and local assistance would be required, the Humanities Urban Environmental Sciences GIS lab at Stephen F. Austin University immediately began to mobilize units. Utilizing ERDAS IMAGINE® software, this large scale event encompassed a process of data mining, data processing, spatial analysis and map composition, which aided in search and recovery efforts.

Saxon Forestry, Germany

The GIS/cartography/cadastre department within the Public Enterprise Sachsenforst manages geographic data, delivering it to the forestry districts. The department required a data management solution with quick and flexible access to any desired data. In addition, the data needed to be deliverableas an Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) compliant web service, or on CD/DVD. The new system also needed to offer data for direct consumption in ERDAS IMAGINE® and other geospatial applications. ERDAS APOLLO was selected and customized to meet Sachsenforst’s unique needs.
