    The INDES-MUSA is a cross-Hexagon project based on the deployment of an innovative multi-sensor system for monitoring ground deformations and seismic motions in subsidence-prone urban areas in both Greece and China.     One remarkable student, Su Zhang, won the coveted 2015 Hexagon Geospatial Education Award. He and his professor, Chris Lippitt, presented their research at HxGN LIVE 2015 in Las Vegas. 

    This forward-thinking study explored the utility of hyper-spatial resolution (3-millimeter) natural color digital aerial imagery acquired from a low-cost unmanned remote sensing system, in this case a tethered weather balloon, to permit characterization of detailed flexible pavement (i.e. asphalt concrete) surface distress conditions with the help of ERDAS IMAGINE. This type of pavement was selected for this research because it is the most widely used material across the United States. Results indicate great potential for the application ERDAS IMAGINE in hyper-spatial resolution multispectral aerial image processing and analysis.

    The dredging industry is experiencing a period of significant growth.  In support of efficient and safe operations, high-resolution satellite information is employed to effectively support the monitoring of some of dredging activities for the installation of offshore infrastructure. Planetek Italia has developed standardized geospatial products based on remotely sensed data, designed in particular to support dredging operations. Based on the IMAGINE Spatial Modeler, the solution enables the very fast processing of Earth Observation data in accordance to standard procedures.  Within a few hours, satellite data is quickly processed to derive indicators about water turbidity levels for each pixel of the area of interest. This method provides accurate and validated information, useful for measuring the quantitative and spatial information required in the dispersion of sediments during dredging operations. Currently different organizations worldwide have already adopted these solutions.
