False Virus Reports

Beginning the week of July 11, 2010, the Symantec Norton anti-virus program reported that a certain file in ERDAS IMAGINE 2010, importdppdb_ui.exe, carried the "suspicious.emit" virus.  No other anti-virus program reports this.

The entire suite of ERDAS 2011 (and previous versions) software, both from the DVD installer and the web-site download has passed a full virus scan from the highly-regarded Trend Micro OfficeScan anti-virus program.  The file in question, the importer for the Digital Point Position Database data format, has been in use for many years and no actual problems with viruses have ever been reported to ERDAS.

Based upon these facts, we believe this to be a false positive -- a threat detected by a security tool where no actual risk exists.  We do not believe you will have any virus problem installing and using any ERDAS product.
