Hexagon develops solution for monitoring chemical, biological and nuclear threats for Canada’s Department of National Defence08 2月 2022
(HUNTSVILLE, Ala., 8 February 2022) – Hexagon’s Safety, Infrastructure & Geospatial division today announced the successful delivery of a visualization and analysis solution for Canada’s Department of National Defence (DND) to assist in the monitoring, detection, early warning and prediction of chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear (CBRN) threats. The solution was funded through DND’s Innovation for Defence Excellence and Security (IDEaS) program.
Built on Hexagon’s M.App Enterprise and Luciad software, the solution brings together real-time and historical data from multiple sources, such as maps, wearables and environmental and weather sensors, into one common operating picture for interactive 3D visualization and analysis. Artificial intelligence and machine learning (AI/ML) capabilities from Larus Technologies help to determine the optimal locations for static and mobile sensor placement, enabling the department to plan for specific scenarios and operations. Integrated predictive plume cloud modelling analytics from Lakes Environmental utilize the multiple data streams to produce release simulations for understanding overall risk and developing management and mitigation strategies.
IDEaS has been seeking innovative solutions and technologies for the persistent surveillance of CBRN threats that allows rapid detection, early warning and effective monitoring of Chemical, Biological and Radiological (CBR) releases. The new Hexagon solution would enable the Canadian Armed Forces to understand risks, visualize threats, predict outcomes and make more informed decisions that could save lives.
“Hexagon is on a mission to create safer cities and nations around the world,” said David Armstrong, vice president and general manager, Hexagon’s Safety, Infrastructure & Geospatial division. “This initial solution for Canada’s Department of Defence allows for the integration and display of sophisticated CBRN analytics in 3D, providing much needed insights for decision-makers. In addition, the underlying technology platform can integrate an unlimited number of CBRN analytics engines, allowing for even broader threat assessment and better protection of Canadian soldiers and citizens.”
