The South African government tasked the Agricultural Research Council (ARC) with mapping and monitoring areas that were invaded by alien trees, the Prosopis species and their hybrids specifically, and predicating areas that were susceptible to future invasion. The ARC used ERDAS IMAGINE software to rectify and mosaic imagery as well as perform classifications, vegetation indices, and zonal statistics. Predicting and monitoring areas of potential invasion using Spatial Modeler was one of the key successes of this project.
